A Dark Dryad in *Dungeons & Dragons* is a twisted, malevolent version of the traditionally benevolent dryad, corrupted by dark magic, malevolent forces, or unnatural influences. These sinister fey creatures dwell in cursed forests or shadowed groves, where their bond to a corrupted tree sustains their existence and reflects their tainted nature. Unlike their counterparts who embody nature's beauty and harmony, Dark Dryads exude an aura of decay and malice, with withered, bark-like skin, hair resembling tangled vines or thorns, and glowing, predatory eyes. 

Dark Dryads retain some of their original connection to the natural world but twist it for destructive ends. They command darkened plant life, using brambles, strangling vines, or animate roots to ensnare and harm intruders. Their presence often warps the surrounding environment, creating an oppressive, eerie atmosphere filled with unnatural silence and the faint rustling of unseen dangers. These creatures are fiercely territorial, viewing any intrusion as a threat to their domain.

Often serving as agents of dark fey lords, shadowy gods, or other malevolent entities, Dark Dryads may act as guardians of cursed artifacts, protectors of forbidden glades, or temptresses luring adventurers into deadly traps. Despite their alignment with darkness, remnants of their original nature may persist, creating the possibility for redemption under extraordinary circumstances. However, their hostility, cunning, and deep-seated bitterness often make such redemption rare and fraught with peril.

In combat, Dark Dryads blend their innate fey magic with guerrilla tactics, using the terrain to their advantage and sowing discord among their enemies. Spells like *entangle*, *spike growth*, and *dominate person* allow them to control the battlefield and manipulate foes, ensuring that any encounter with one is as dangerous as it is memorable. Their allure, combined with their lethal cunning, makes them a compelling foe in any campaign.
