A Drider Lich in Dungeons & Dragons is an exceptionally rare and terrifying fusion of a drider and a lich, combining the monstrous qualities of a spider-like drider with the undead might and arcane mastery of a lich. Driders themselves are cursed creatures, typically drow who have failed the trials of Lolth, the Spider Queen, and are transformed into grotesque hybrids with the upper body of a drow and the lower body of a massive spider. A lich, on the other hand, is a powerful spellcaster who has achieved undeath to extend their life indefinitely by binding their soul to a phylactery.

A Drider Lich emerges when a drider seeks to overcome its cursed form and mortality through necromantic magic. Such a transformation is incredibly rare, as it requires a drider with exceptional magical skill, willpower, and the ability to construct a phylactery—something usually reserved for mortals of great intellect and magical knowledge. Once achieved, the result is a nightmarish abomination, blending the undead resilience, spellcasting power, and cunning of a lich with the monstrous agility and physical prowess of a drider. Its spider-like body decays but remains functional, exuding an aura of death and corruption.

A Drider Lich often exists in solitude, dwelling in shadowy depths of the Underdark or in ancient, cursed ruins where it continues its dark pursuits. It retains its hatred for its drow kin and serves no master, not even Lolth, as its lichdom grants it freedom from the Spider Queen’s influence. With its undead form and unparalleled magical prowess, it becomes a terror to all who cross its path. Adventurers who encounter a Drider Lich face not only its necromantic spells but also its venomous attacks, webs, and the unnerving presence of a creature that has transcended mortality in the darkest of ways.
