An Ettercap is a sinister humanoid predator that haunts the deepest forests, abandoned ruins, and shadowy caverns of the Dungeons & Dragons multiverse. Part spider and part humanoid, these cruel creatures are infamous for weaving vast webs, breeding monstrous spiders, and transforming entire woodlands into deadly hunting grounds. Ettercaps are intelligent but malicious, delighting in trapping travellers and slowly tormenting their victims before feeding upon them. Many believe they were created through ancient curses or dark magic, though their true origins remain a mystery lost to time.

Standing between six and seven feet tall, an Ettercap possesses a gaunt, wiry frame covered in coarse brown or black hair. Its elongated limbs end in sharp, hooked claws ideal for climbing trees and clinging to vertical surfaces. The creature's head combines unsettling humanoid features with those of a giant spider, including multiple glossy black eyes that grant excellent vision even in darkness. Long, jagged fangs drip with venom, while strands of sticky silk constantly hang from its mouth and hands. Its movements are unnervingly quick and jerky, allowing it to dart effortlessly through tangled webs or leap between branches with startling agility.

An Ettercap is a patient and methodical hunter. Rather than confronting prey directly, it constructs elaborate networks of webs concealed among trees, cave passages, or ruined buildings.
