This is a Highly detailed miniature of a Jerboa.

This model was created by Schlossbauer who makes amazingly accurate models of the Monster Manual creatures and provided by Commercial Licence.

In Dungeons & Dragons, a jerboa is a small desert-dwelling rodent that may appear as a mundane creature in the wild or as an unusual familiar or animal companion. Based on the real-world animal, the jerboa is typically portrayed as a tiny, long-tailed creature with powerful hind legs, allowing it to make extraordinary leaps. In some D&D settings, it is treated as a minor beast, often with statistics similar to a mouse or a rat, but adapted for arid environments and possibly given a high Dexterity score or the ability to jump great distances relative to its size.

While a jerboa is unlikely to appear as a threatening opponent in combat, its role in D&D is more about flavor, utility, and thematic storytelling. As a familiar—available through the find familiar spell for wizards and warlocks—it offers a character a nimble, hard-to-spot creature with sharp senses, particularly hearing. Its desert heritage makes it a suitable companion for druids, rangers, or desert nomads in campaigns set in arid or exotic regions. Some Dungeon Masters may even allow custom familiar options to include the jerboa, highlighting its stealthy movement and ability to evade threats with speed and agility.

In narrative terms, jerboas can be useful for scouting small spaces, detecting changes in the environment, or adding cultural depth to desert tribes and druids who may treat the jerboa as a totem animal symbolizing alertness, resilience, and adaptability. A sentient or magically enhanced jerboa might appear as a trickster spirit, desert guide, or even a polymorphed creature in disguise. In these interpretations, the jerboa moves beyond simple ecology and becomes part of the mythic fabric of the world, lending itself to creative encounters and whimsical storytelling that only D&D can provide. Despite its tiny stature, the jerboa can leap into surprising narrative significance.
