An Orc Berserker in Dungeons & Dragons is the unrestrained embodiment of orcish fury, a warrior who abandons tactics for overwhelming aggression and terrifying momentum. Larger and more battle-scarred than a common orc, the berserker is defined by corded muscle, ritual markings, and armor that is functional rather than refined—spiked pauldrons, layered hides, and trophies taken from fallen foes. Their eyes burn with barely contained rage, and their stance suggests constant readiness to surge forward in a storm of steel.
Unlike disciplined champions or war chiefs, the Orc Berserker thrives in chaos. In battle, they enter a primal frenzy that dulls pain and heightens destructive output. Mechanically, this is often represented through Rage, granting resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage, alongside bonus damage on melee attacks. Some versions gain Reckless Attack, sacrificing defense for advantage on their strikes, or Frenzy, allowing an additional attack at the cost of later exhaustion. Their weapon of choice is typically a massive greataxe or jagged blade capable of cleaving shields and splitting armor with brutal efficiency.
Psychologically, the berserker walks a fine line between warrior and living weapon. Many are driven by devotion to a war god, tribal humiliation, or a vow of vengeance. Others channel ancestral spirits believed to inhabit their bloodline, their rage seen as sacred rather than savage. In some cultures, becoming a berserker is an honored path reserved for those who survive brutal rites of endurance.
On the battlefield, the Orc Berserker is a shock troop, crashing into enemy lines with a roar that shakes morale. Where they tread, formations shatter and fear spreads. Whether serving as a fearsome antagonist or a volatile ally, the Orc Berserker represents the raw, untamed heart of orcish warfare—violence given voice and momentum.
