A Pancakes Mimic is a humorous variant of the classic Mimic monster in Dungeons & Dragons, often used as a quirky or lighthearted encounter. Traditionally, Mimics are shape-shifting creatures that disguise themselves as mundane objects, like chests or doors, to lure in unsuspecting adventurers. A Pancakes Mimic takes this concept to an unexpected extreme by assuming the form of a stack of pancakes or a similar food item.

In its hidden form, it appears as a perfectly harmless, perhaps even delicious, stack of pancakes, tempting characters who are either hungry or distracted. The Mimic then waits for an opportunity to strike. When a player interacts with it—typically by attempting to eat or touch the pancakes—the Mimic reveals its true nature. It unfolds into a monstrous, oozing creature with a massive, tooth-filled mouth, often with tentacles or sticky surfaces that attempt to ensnare and engulf its prey.

The Pancakes Mimic serves as a playful twist in a campaign, often adding a dose of humor or surprise, especially in a less serious or more whimsical setting. While its abilities and combat stats may mirror those of a standard Mimic, the addition of the food-based disguise can make the encounter more memorable and lighthearted. This type of Mimic is often used in one-shot adventures or in campaigns that embrace absurdity, allowing Dungeon Masters to bring a unique and funny challenge to their players.
