A Red Dragon Wyrmling in Dungeons & Dragons is the youngest stage of one of the most iconic and feared chromatic dragons in the game. Despite its youth, a red wyrmling is already a formidable and dangerous opponent. Hatched into the world filled with arrogance and aggression, it instinctively views itself as a superior being. From its very first breath, it is aware of its draconic heritage and the fiery power it possesses. Even as a wyrmling, it burns with ambition and pride, seeing all other creatures as either tools to be used or obstacles to be incinerated.

Red dragons are creatures of volcanic fire and raw dominance, and even their wyrmlings gravitate toward mountainous or fiery regions, often near active volcanoes or deep, scorched canyons. These young dragons establish lairs high in crags or caves filled with heat and sulfurous fumes. They prefer locations that provide both security and a sweeping vantage point from which they can look down on the world — a reflection of their deeply ingrained need to dominate. Although they have yet to acquire the full majesty or magical capabilities of their older counterparts, red wyrmlings are cunning and bold. They are quick learners, absorbing knowledge of treasure, tactics, and territory with obsessive zeal. They hoard gold and valuables not just for their worth, but because they believe such possessions are their birthright.

In combat, a red dragon wyrmling is brutal and reckless, using its fiery breath weapon to devastating effect. Its small size gives it speed and maneuverability, allowing it to strafe enemies or retreat to high perches if overwhelmed. Encounters with these creatures often begin with surprise attacks or acts of wanton destruction, especially if they believe intruders threaten their lair or their growing hoard. Even among dragons, red wyrmlings are considered especially vicious and proud, destined to grow into terrifying tyrants of flame.
