A Werebuffalo in Dungeons & Dragons is a type of lycanthrope, a creature cursed or gifted with the ability to transform between a humanoid, an animal, and a hybrid form. Unlike the more common werewolf, a werebuffalo is known for its immense size, brute strength, and indomitable resilience. Often found in frontier lands, vast plains, or tribal societies, werebuffaloes are seen as sacred warriors, protectors of the land, or terrifying engines of destruction depending on the culture that encounters them.

When in hybrid form, a werebuffalo retains its humanoid shape but grows in mass, with thick, shaggy fur, curved horns, and powerful hooves. Their natural armor makes them incredibly durable, shrugging off blows that would fell lesser creatures. They charge with devastating force, using their horns and immense strength to trample enemies. Like other lycanthropes, they are immune to nonmagical weapons that aren’t silvered, making them difficult to combat without proper preparation.

A player character afflicted with lycanthropy from a werebuffalo gains increased strength, endurance, and the ability to charge with tremendous force. However, they also wrestle with a growing, primal nature that demands respect for the herd, a deep connection to the land, and a struggle to control their anger. Dungeon Masters can use werebuffaloes as legendary guardians, tribal champions, or fearsome foes whose power and presence command awe and respect.
