A Zombie Giant Snake in Dungeons & Dragons is an undead version of a massive serpent, reanimated through necromantic magic to serve the will of its master or to prowl ancient ruins, fetid jungles, or forgotten tombs. Unlike living snakes, which rely on stealth and speed, a zombie giant snake is relentless and tireless, driven by unnatural instinct and devoid of fear or self-preservation. It typically measures over 20 feet in length, with decaying flesh hanging from its skeletal frame, revealing sinew, exposed bone, and rotting organs within. Despite the ravages of decomposition, its body still coils and constricts with dreadful force.
This creature is often the result of dark rituals performed by necromancers, cultists, or powerful undead such as liches or death knights. The reanimation process preserves the snake’s physical might, especially its crushing constrict attack, while stripping it of all intelligence or animal cunning. It no longer hunts for food or territory—it simply follows commands, patrols cursed locations, or attacks intruders without hesitation. Its bite may carry the stench and filth of decay but lacks the venom of its living counterpart. Instead, the horror of being entangled and crushed by a mindless corpse snake is threat enough.
In combat, the zombie giant snake is a durable opponent. As an undead creature, it is immune to poison and disease, resistant to many forms of necrotic or psychic manipulation, and it cannot be charmed, frightened, or exhausted. Though slow and easy to outpace, it is difficult to destroy without focused damage. Its strength lies in its sheer physical power and undead resilience, and in some cases, it may be accompanied by other undead servants or environmental hazards like cursed altars or necrotic mists.
Zombie giant snakes are especially fitting in adventures with a horror, jungle, or ancient ruin theme, where their presence hints at forgotten rituals, divine curses, or the long reach of a death-worshipping cult.
