The Snowy Owl is a large, striking bird of prey native to the Arctic regions of North America and Eurasia. Its pure white plumage, often flecked with dark markings, provides exceptional camouflage against the snow-covered tundra where it lives and hunts. Adult males are usually almost entirely white, while females and younger owls tend to have more dark barring across their feathers, giving them a mottled appearance. This dense plumage, along with thick feathering on their legs and feet, helps insulate them from the extreme cold of their environment. 

With a wingspan that can reach up to five feet, the Snowy Owl is a powerful flier, capable of long-distance travel during migration seasons. It has bright yellow eyes and a sharp, black beak, features that stand out vividly against its pale feathers. These eyes are specially adapted for hunting in low light conditions, which is essential during the Arctic’s long winters. The owl primarily feeds on lemmings, voles, and other small mammals, but it will also prey on birds such as ducks and ptarmigans when available.
