Stygimoloch – Hueforge 3D-Printed Artwork

Stygimoloch was a small, herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, roughly 68 to 66 million years ago, in what is now North America. It belonged to the pachycephalosaur family, a group of dome-headed dinosaurs known for their thick skulls and possible head-butting behavior. Its name means “devil from the river Styx,” a reference to its fierce appearance and the underworld river of Greek mythology.

This dinosaur was relatively small, estimated to have reached around three meters in length and standing about one meter tall at the hips. It moved on two legs and had a light, agile body suited for quick movement, which would have been useful for evading predators. Its most striking feature was the high, narrow dome on top of its skull, surrounded by a crown of long, sharp spikes that projected backward from the back of the head. The surface of the skull was rough and knobby, suggesting that the bone was thick and covered in a layer of tough skin or keratin. These spikes and the dome likely played a role in display, species recognition, or dominance rituals, and possibly in combat with other individuals of its kind, although direct evidence for such behavior is debated.
